Blu-ray players are primarily designed to work with high-definition Blu-ray discs. However, Blu-ray players will also play standard DVDs - so there`s no need to throw out your old collection. Most Blu-ray players will attempt to `upscale` the picture from a standard DVD and produce a pseudo-HD picture, but this is not as good as the true HD picture you`ll get from a Blu-ray disc.
